Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a heartfelt welcome from the Indian diaspora and Argentinian artists as he arrived in Buenos Aires, marking the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Argentina in 57 years.

Modi, who is in Argentina for the third leg of his five-nation tour, was greeted with traditional Indian classical dance performances by local artists. The performers expressed deep pride in showcasing Indian culture before the Prime Minister.

“It was a life-changing experience,” said Zinia, one of the artists. “We worked hard to respectfully represent Indian dance forms. PM Modi watched us closely and congratulated us.”

Another dancer, Sofia, added, “He praised us and clapped, saying ‘Shabash’. It was a once-in-a-lifetime moment.”

Anandini Das, an Argentinian of Indian origin, described the moment as an honour: “We feel blessed. PM Modi is working very hard to revive the greatness of Bharat. We were determined to offer him a warm and traditional welcome.”

Members of the Indian diaspora also gathered in large numbers to greet the PM. Vijay Kumar Gupta, who travelled 400 km from Rosario, said, “I came just to shake hands with PM Modi. It was a dream come true.”

Deependar Lamba, a resident of Argentina for 45 years, recalled meeting Modi during his previous visit. “This time, he’s here for bilateral talks. We are proud and filled with joy to receive him,” he shared.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal called it a historic moment in India-Argentina relations. In a post on X, he wrote:
“Celebrating the enduring friendship between our nations… PM Modi’s visit marks a new chapter in India-Argentina ties.”

PM Modi will hold bilateral talks with President Javier Milei to review and expand cooperation in areas including defence, agriculture, energy, trade, and cultural exchange.

The visit reflects India’s growing engagement with Latin America and highlights Modi’s efforts to strengthen people-to-people connections and promote Indian culture globally.
