“Anything Could Happen”: Trump Hints at Uncertain US Role as Israel-Iran Conflict Escalates

Amid intensifying hostilities between Israel and Iran, US President Donald Trump stated on Wednesday that while he has a plan to address the crisis, “anything could happen,” underscoring the unpredictability of Washington’s next steps.

“I have a plan for everything… but we’ll see what happens,” Trump said, as he refused to confirm whether a US military strike on Iran was on the table. He emphasized that circumstances on the ground remain fluid and suggested any final decisions would be taken at the last moment. “I like to finalise one second before it’s due. Things change. Especially with war.”

Trump also expressed frustration over failed past negotiations with Iran, saying the regime missed a “great deal” he had offered. “We talked about it for 60 days, and in the end, they decided not to do it, and now they wish they had. It’s late to meet, but they want to, and they want to come to the White House. I may do that… anything could happen.”

As the conflict entered its seventh day, Trump revealed he was heading to a war room meeting to review the situation. “We are in the midst of something terrible. I hate to see so much death and destruction.”

The situation remains dire on both sides. According to Iranian media reports cited by Anadolu Agency, 585 people have been killed and over 1,300 injured in Israeli airstrikes across Iran. Meanwhile, at least 24 people have died in Israel with hundreds more wounded in Iranian missile attacks.

In recent developments, the Israeli Defense Forces confirmed that their air force launched a “series of attacks” in Tehran and other locations in Iran. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps responded by activating air defence systems over the capital, signaling a deepening military exchange.

Trump’s statements come amid growing global concern and speculation about potential US involvement. While he hinted at back-channel outreach from Tehran, Iran’s leadership has publicly dismissed the notion of talks under duress.

As the world watches the volatile Middle East situation unfold, President Trump’s ambiguity reflects both the unpredictability of the crisis and Washington’s strategic calculus in navigating the dangerous standoff between two regional powers.
