At least 18 passengers were injured when a Delta Airlines aircraft crashed while attempting to land at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday, ending up upside down on the snowy runway. Thankfully, no fatalities were reported.
Delta Airlines issued a statement confirming that there were no fatalities. “Initial reports indicate there are no fatalities, and 18 customers with injuries have been transported to area hospitals. Our primary focus is taking care of those impacted,” the airline said.
Authorities stated that the flight, which was traveling from Minneapolis with 80 people on board, ended up upside down on the runway. Emergency services reported that 15 people, including a child, sustained injuries, though none were life-threatening.
Toronto Pearson International Airport also responded, acknowledging the incident and confirming that emergency teams were on site. A post shared on X read, “Toronto Pearson is aware of an incident upon landing involving a Delta Airlines plane arriving from Minneapolis. Emergency teams are responding. All passengers and crew are accounted for.”
The airline announced that all flights to and from Toronto Pearson were cancelled for the rest of the evening, and travel waivers were provided to passengers.
Earlier, Peel Regional Police had reported that eight individuals were injured in the crash, with one in critical condition and the rest suffering from moderate to mild injuries.
