The highly anticipated musical fantasy film “Wicked: Part Two” has a new release date, as revealed by its makers. Initially set to hit theaters on November 26, 2025, the film will now arrive a few days earlier, on November 21, 2025. Universal Pictures will be distributing the movie. This shift ensures it avoids competition with Disney’s “Zootopia 2,” which shares the same holiday season release window.
Directed by Jon M. Chu and written by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox, “Wicked: Part Two” continues the untold backstory of the witches from the Land of Oz. The plot follows Elphaba, portrayed by Cynthia Erivo, a misunderstood young woman with green skin who has yet to discover the full extent of her powers. Meanwhile, Ariana Grande’s Glinda is a popular figure driven by ambition and privilege, but she still has to uncover her true inner self.
The film brings back familiar faces alongside new additions to the cast. Peter Dinklage takes on the role of Dr. Dillamond, Michelle Yeoh plays Madame Morrible, the headmistress of Shiz University, while Jonathan Bailey appears as Fiyero, a carefree prince. Other cast members include Ethan Slater as Boq, Marissa Bode as Nessarose (Elphaba’s sister), and the legendary Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard of Oz.
“Wicked: Part Two” is the follow-up to the first part of a two-film adaptation of the famous Broadway musical of the same name. Based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel and characters from L. Frank Baum’s 1900 classic ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz,’ the musical has enjoyed immense popularity on stage, and now fans eagerly await its cinematic version.
