The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday announced a full-strength 15-member squad for the upcoming home Test series against the West Indies, starting October 2 in Ahmedabad.
Chief selector Ajit Agarkar confirmed that Rishabh Pant will miss the series as he continues to recover from a foot injury. In his absence, Dhruv Jurel and N Jagadeesan will provide wicketkeeping options.
Despite speculation that Shubman Gill might be rested after India’s Asia Cup T20I campaign, he has been named captain of the Test side, with Ravindra Jadeja appointed as vice-captain.
The squad also features the return of pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, alongside Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna, who was included despite a recent head injury during India A’s match against Australia A in Lucknow.
Young talents Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal, and Nitish Kumar Reddy have been rewarded with call-ups, while Karun Nair has been left out. The selectors’ decision to field a strong line-up highlights India’s focus on maintaining momentum in the World Test Championship (WTC) campaign.
India will play two Test matches against West Indies in this series.
