Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has backed Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to prove their match-winning abilities in the upcoming Champions Trophy, emphasizing that while expectations are high, both players still have the talent to deliver, despite the growing pressure from younger players waiting for their chance.
Speaking to ANI, Harbhajan said, “Virat and Rohit haven’t scored as many runs as expected based on their past performances. The high expectations lead to criticism when they fall short. However, with the Champions Trophy coming up, they have a big opportunity to showcase their abilities and prove they can still win matches for India. If they don’t perform, the younger players waiting for opportunities will likely get their chance. But I still believe both have plenty of cricket left in them. They are highly capable players who can still score runs.”
Harbhajan also believes that India has a significant advantage in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, especially due to their familiarity with the Dubai pitches, which could give them the edge over Pakistan in their highly anticipated clash.
“The India-Pakistan match is creating a lot of hype, but the team that adjusts better to the pitch conditions will have the upper hand. India has an advantage, as it will play all its matches in Dubai, which gives them a better understanding of the pitch and conditions. Overall, I feel India is the stronger team, and I expect the result to favour them,” he stated.
Additionally, Harbhajan spoke about the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, stressing that while no one can truly replace him, this situation provides an opportunity for others like Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Shami to step up and take responsibility. “When a player like Bumrah is not playing, others need to rise to the occasion. No one can replace Bumrah, but his absence opens the door for others to prove their worth. Arshdeep and Shami now have a chance to make an impact and showcase their abilities,” he said.
The two-week competition will feature the world’s top eight teams, battling it out in 15 thrilling matches over 19 days, with every game counting towards the pursuit of the prestigious white jackets.
Fans can still purchase tickets for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 by buying them online or visiting physical ticket outlets in Pakistan. Tickets for the final, scheduled for Sunday, March 9, will be available for purchase following the first semi-final in Dubai, as confirmed by the ICC.
