Punjab Kings (PBKS) spinner Yuzvendra Chahal etched his name in the IPL history books by equaling Sunil Narine’s record for the most four-wicket hauls in the tournament. Chahal’s match-winning performance of 4/28 helped PBKS clinch a stunning 16-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Mullanpur on Tuesday.

Chahal’s clinical spell dismantled the KKR batting order, claiming the key wickets of Ajinkya Rahane, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Rinku Singh, and Ramandeep Singh. His effort triggered a dramatic collapse from 62/2 to 95 all out as KKR fell short in their chase of 112.

With this spell, Chahal now has eight four-wicket hauls in IPL history—equaling KKR legend Sunil Narine. Impressively, this was Chahal’s third 4+ wicket haul against KKR, the most by any bowler versus a single team in IPL. He has also taken 33 wickets against KKR, ranking third in the list of most wickets by a bowler against one team.

In the current IPL season, Chahal has taken six wickets in six matches at an average of 32.50 and an economy rate of 10.26. He also reached another milestone by surpassing Mohammad Nabi and Mohammad Amir to become the 11th-highest wicket-taker in T20 cricket with 370 wickets in 318 matches. Among Indian bowlers, he now holds the top spot for most T20 wickets.

In the match, PBKS opted to bat first and got a fiery start from Priyansh Arya (22 off 12) and Prabhsimran Singh (30 off 15), who put up a 39-run opening stand. However, KKR fought back with tight spells from Harshit Rana (3/25), Sunil Narine (2/14), and Varun Chakravarthy (2/21), bundling out PBKS for 111 in 15.3 overs.

During the chase, KKR’s batters struggled under pressure from Chahal and Marco Jansen (3/17). Despite efforts from Raghuvanshi (37) and Andre Russell (17), the team crumbled for 95 in 15.1 overs.

With this win, PBKS climbed to fourth place on the points table with four wins and two losses (8 points), while KKR dropped to sixth with three wins from seven matches (6 points).
