Union Home Minister Amit Shah urged Delhi voters to participate in the ongoing Assembly elections on Wednesday, emphasizing that their votes could help address the city’s longstanding issues, including pollution, poor infrastructure, and inadequate public services. Shah called on voters to reject false promises and vote for a government with a proven record of public welfare and a clear vision for the capital’s future development.

In a post on X, Shah said, “I appeal to my sisters and brothers who are voting in the Delhi Assembly elections to cast their votes against false promises, polluted Yamuna, liquor shops, broken roads, and dirty water. Today, vote in large numbers for a government with a strong track record of public welfare and a clear vision for the development of Delhi. Your one vote can make Delhi the most developed capital in the world.”

BJP President and Union Minister JP Nadda also urged Delhi residents to vote in large numbers. “Voting is taking place today for the Delhi Assembly elections. I appeal to the people of Delhi to vote in large numbers to end the reign of corruption and scams and elect a government dedicated to the welfare of the poor and youth for a developed Delhi. Your vote will help strengthen democracy,” Nadda said.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also stressed the importance of voting, especially for first-time voters. “I appeal to all my voting brothers and sisters, especially the young friends voting for the first time, to participate enthusiastically in this festival of democracy. Your vote will play a key role in forming a government free from corruption and appeasement, and in building a pollution-free, inclusive, and development-oriented Delhi,” Gadkari posted on X.

Polling for 70 assembly seats began at 7:00 am on Wednesday, with voting continuing until 6:00 pm. The election is being held amid tight security, with Delhi’s 1.56 crore registered voters heading to the polls.

High-profile constituencies like New Delhi and Jangpura are seeing intense competition. In New Delhi, former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal (AAP) faces BJP’s Parvesh Verma and Congress’s Sandeep Dikshit (son of former CM Sheila Dikshit). Jangpura sees a contest between AAP’s Manish Sisodia, Congress’s Farhad Suri, and BJP’s Tarvinder Singh Marwah.

A total of 699 candidates are contesting for the 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly. Voter demographics include 83.76 lakh men, 72.36 lakh women, 1,267 third-gender voters, as well as 2.39 lakh first-time voters, 1.09 lakh elderly voters, and 79,885 persons with disabilities.
