Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Congress, accusing them of making divisive statements and indirectly defending Pakistan in the aftermath of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives.

Speaking at a public event in Deoria district to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of 501 development projects worth over ₹676 crore, Adityanath urged the nation to unite under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in the fight against terrorism.

Referring to SP leaders’ comments following the attack, Adityanath alleged they echoed the language of Pakistan’s spokespersons.

“It’s hard to tell whether the statements are coming from an SP leader or a representative of Pakistan,” he remarked.

He criticised an SP leader for refusing to visit the family of Shubham Dwivedi, a Kanpur resident killed in the attack, reportedly stating Dwivedi “was not a party member.”

“The whole country is mourning the attack, and their leaders are justifying their absence with such excuses,” Adityanath said.

The UP CM also condemned another SP leader for saying, “Hindu has killed Hindu,” arguing that such remarks shift the blame away from Pakistan and insult the victims.

“By saying this, the SP leader gave a clean chit to Pakistan,” he said.

Adityanath accused the opposition, particularly SP and Congress, of indulging in caste politics and appeasement, rather than focusing on national welfare.

“They think only about their families. When in power, they shut sugar mills, caused unemployment, and gave nothing but riots and disease,” he alleged.

He called on citizens to rise above political divisions and stand united against terrorism:

“This is a time for unity. The whole nation should condemn terrorism and support the leadership of PM Modi in eradicating it. Unfortunately, we cannot expect such commitment from SP and Congress,” he added.

The remarks come amid growing political tensions and national outrage following the Pahalgam terror attack.
