Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday hit out at the Central government for its silence over the deportation of Indian citizens from the United States. He particularly condemned the treatment they allegedly faced, being handcuffed and subjected to inhumane conditions.

“Those who promised to make India the Vishwaguru, why are they silent now?” Yadav questioned. “Indian citizens were deported like slaves, handcuffed and treated inhumanely. What is the Ministry of External Affairs doing? What steps has the government taken to protect our citizens, especially women and children, from this disrespect?”

Yadav urged the government to allow the Opposition to raise the issue in Parliament during the ongoing Budget Session. “We want the government to respond and allow us to discuss this issue in Parliament,” he added.

Meanwhile, opposition MPs, including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and Akhilesh Yadav, staged a protest outside Parliament. The protest was against the alleged inhumane treatment of Indian citizens during their deportation from the U.S.

Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal, SP MP Dharmendra Yadav, Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla, and several other leaders participated in the protest by wearing handcuffs. This was to symbolize their opposition to the degrading treatment of Indian citizens during their deportation.

The Congress party submitted an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha demanding a discussion on the matter. The motion highlighted the need to address the issue urgently to prevent further dehumanization of Indian citizens and to ensure their dignity is upheld both at home and abroad.

The Lok Sabha was adjourned until 2 pm following the uproar over the issue. Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced he would address the Rajya Sabha at 2 pm regarding the deportation issue.

A U.S. Air Force plane carrying Indian nationals who were allegedly living in the U.S. illegally arrived in Amritsar, Punjab, on Wednesday.

Earlier this week, a U.S. Embassy spokesperson stated that while specific details of the deportation could not be shared, the U.S. is firmly enforcing its immigration laws. The spokesperson emphasized that the actions taken were meant to send a clear message that illegal migration carries significant risks.
