Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat reaffirmed the commitment of security forces to curbing cross-border infiltration following a deadly encounter in Kathua. The operation, which resulted in the deaths of four officers, saw the elimination of two terrorists, while security forces continue efforts to secure the area.

Addressing the media, DGP Prabhat detailed the operation, stating, “On the evening of March 23, a local couple reported the sighting of suspected Pakistanis in Sanyal. Our officers responded immediately and engaged in an encounter, during which the suspects managed to escape, leaving behind ammunition, IEDs, and grenades. A joint security operation involving the BSF, Army, and CRPF was launched, and after a four-day search, our forces engaged the terrorists again yesterday, neutralizing two. Unfortunately, due to a clear line of sight, four of our brave officers were martyred.”

He further emphasized the unwavering determination of the security forces, stating, “The Jammu and Kashmir Police will not sleep until we put an end to such activities by our neighbor. The operation is still ongoing, and our teams are actively working to clear the area.”

On Friday, a solemn wreath-laying ceremony was held to honor the fallen officers—SGCT Balvinder Singh, SGCT Jaswant Singh, and SGCT Tariq Ahmed—who lost their lives during the anti-terrorist operation ‘Safiyan.’ DGP Prabhat paid tribute to their sacrifice, laying a wreath in their honor.

Meanwhile, reports of gunfire emerged on Thursday in the same area after security forces spotted suspected terrorists. The encounter stemmed from intelligence inputs regarding militant movements in the Hiranagar region of Kathua. In response, the Jammu and Kashmir Police and troops of the Indian Army’s Rising Star Corps launched a joint intelligence-based operation.

“Based on intelligence input regarding the presence of terrorists, a joint operation has been launched by @JmuKmrPolice & troops of #RisingStar Corps on 23 Mar 25 in the general area of Sanyal #Hiranagar. Operations in progress,” the Rising Star Corps, Indian Army, confirmed in a post on X.

Additionally, security forces have heightened their vigilance across Jammu and Kashmir, conducting multiple search operations in Anantnag district. The intensified efforts aim to dismantle banned terror networks and prevent the resurgence of militant activities in the region.
