On the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Prime Minister Narendra Modi drew inspiration from the iconic leader’s Azad Hind Fauj, urging citizens to unite for a “Vikshit Bharat” (Developed India). Addressing the nation virtually during the Parakram Diwas celebration at Barabati Fort in Cuttack, Odisha, PM Modi emphasized the importance of collective effort for the nation’s progress.

The Prime Minister began his address in Odia, congratulating the people and Government of Odisha for organizing the three-day event to honor Netaji’s legacy. “Today, on the auspicious occasion of the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, the entire country is remembering him with reverence. I pay my respectful homage to Netaji Subhas Babu. This grand celebration of Parakram Diwas at Netaji’s birthplace is a moment of pride for all,” PM Modi said.

Highlighting the activities at the event, he mentioned, “A major exhibition showcasing Netaji’s life and heritage has been set up in Cuttack. Paintings inspired by Netaji’s journey, books about his contributions, and preserved artifacts are being displayed, reflecting his remarkable legacy.”

PM Modi reflected on Netaji’s extraordinary life, highlighting his decision to forsake a comfortable career in the British civil services to dedicate himself to India’s freedom. “Netaji could have led an easy life after clearing the civil services exam, but he chose hardship and challenges for the country’s freedom,” the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister urged the youth to step out of their comfort zones and strive for excellence, drawing parallels between the fight for independence and the modern-day goal of national development. “We have to move beyond our comfort zones for Vikshit Bharat. Just as Netaji’s Azad Hind Fauj united people from all walks of life for Swaraj, we too must come together for a prosperous and developed India,” he stated.

Modi emphasized the need for unity, saying, “They had to be united for Swaraj, and today, we have to be united for Vikshit Bharat. Let us focus on making India the best globally.”

The three-day celebration of Parakram Diwas 2025 runs from January 23 to January 25 at Barabati Fort, Netaji’s birthplace. The multifaceted event includes a sculpture workshop, a painting competition, cultural performances celebrating Netaji’s contributions, and the rich traditions of Odisha. Films chronicling Netaji’s life will also be screened during the event.

Netaji’s legacy of courage, selflessness, and commitment to national progress continues to inspire generations. As PM Modi highlighted, the unity exemplified by the Azad Hind Fauj serves as a timeless lesson for building a strong, developed India.
