Delhi BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva expressed confidence on Saturday that the results of the ongoing Delhi assembly election will favor the Bharatiya Janata Party, predicting the formation of a “double engine government” in the national capital.

Sachdeva sharply criticized the AAP government, accusing it of diverting public attention from the city’s critical issues. “The people of Delhi have chosen the path of development, and the result will reflect that decision,” he said.

Speaking to ANI, the Delhi BJP chief continued, “We believe the results will be in our favor. Our party workers have shown immense resilience and dedication. Early trends and feedback from the ground suggest that a double-engine government is in the making in Delhi.”

Taking aim at AAP leaders, Sachdeva remarked, “Lies have no legs,” referring to statements made by Arvind Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh. He argued that the BJP had kept the AAP government accountable over the past year and a half, consistently raising issues such as the liquor scam, pollution, poor infrastructure, and the Sheesh Mahal controversy, to which Kejriwal had been forced to apologize.

“The AAP has tried to distract and mislead the public from these crucial issues. Today, Delhi will decide whether to choose development over corruption. I am confident that the people have chosen the path of progress, and the results will reflect this,” he added.

Sachdeva also downplayed the significance of the Chief Ministerial face for the BJP, saying, “The central leadership will decide the CM’s face for Delhi. For us, it doesn’t matter much. Those who betray the people will face defeat.”

As per early trends from the Election Commission, the BJP has already crossed the majority mark, leading on 38 seats, while the AAP is ahead in 27 constituencies. With the majority mark at 36 seats, BJP appears poised to reclaim power in Delhi after more than two decades.

Polling for the 70-member assembly took place on February 5, with a voter turnout of 60.54%. The AAP is aiming for a third consecutive term, while the BJP is working to secure its return to power.

Most exit polls released earlier this week predicted an edge for the BJP over the AAP, though AAP leaders remain confident, citing the party’s past history of outperforming exit poll predictions.

The BJP’s campaign, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, focused on issues such as the alleged pollution of the Yamuna River and the renovation of Kejriwal’s residence. Key constituencies like New Delhi are seeing high-profile contests, with Kejriwal facing off against Congress’s Sandeep Dikshit and BJP’s Parvesh Verma.
