The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) has initiated a detailed investigation into the renovations and luxury additions made to the 6 Flagstaff Bungalow, the official residence of former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

The CVC has directed the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) to look into allegations that building norms were violated during the construction of the mansion, which has been referred to as the “Sheesh Mahal.” The mansion reportedly covers 40,000 square yards (8 acres).

This probe follows a complaint filed by BJP leader Vijender Gupta on October 14, 2024, accusing Kejriwal of flouting building regulations to create the lavish residence. Gupta’s complaint also alleged that government properties, including Plot Nos. 45 and 47 on Rajpur Road and two bungalows on Flagstaff Road, were demolished and merged into the new construction, violating ground coverage and floor area ratio (FAR) norms. The complaint further pointed out the lack of proper layout plan approvals.

On October 16, the CVC registered the complaint and began its examination. The matter was subsequently forwarded to the CPWD in November for a detailed investigation. The CVC assured that appropriate action would be taken based on the findings.

In addition, on October 21, Gupta filed another complaint with the Vigilance Commission regarding the extravagant spending on the renovation and interior decoration of the Chief Minister’s residence at 6 Flagstaff Road. Gupta highlighted the misuse of taxpayer money for luxurious amenities and raised concerns over financial irregularities and possible corruption, alleging that the costs far exceeded reasonable limits.

The CVC took cognizance of Gupta’s complaint on November 5, acknowledging the gravity of the allegations. A factual report based on the complaint was submitted by the CPWD’s Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) to the CVC on December 5.
