On the occasion of Mahashivratri, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath offered prayers to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati at the Gorakhnath Temple in Gorakhpur. CM Yogi extended his heartfelt wishes to the people of Uttar Pradesh and shared the successful completion of the Maha Kumbh.
In his address, CM Yogi revealed that nearly 66 crore devotees participated in the Maha Kumbh, taking a holy dip in the Triveni Sangam at Prayagraj. He expressed, “I extend my best wishes to all the people of the state on the occasion of Mahashivratri… Every Shivalay in the state is witnessing a massive gathering of devotees… Maha Kumbh is concluding today, almost 66 crore devotees have taken a holy dip in Triveni and has given a message of unity to the entire country.”
CM Yogi, accompanied by BJP MP Ravi Kishan, also offered prayers at several temples including Mansarovar Temple, Mukteshwar Nath Shiva Temple, and Mahadev Jharkhandi Temple.
Devotees from across the country gathered in large numbers at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj for the final ‘Snan’ of the Maha Kumbh, marking the culmination of this grand spiritual event. The festival, which started with the Amrit Snan on Paush Purnima on January 13, included several important bathing dates, with the last one coinciding with Maha Shivratri on February 26.
Maha Shivratri, celebrated as the “great night of Shiva,” holds immense significance for spiritual growth and symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness and ignorance. It also commemorates the divine marriage of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, marking a sacred union of love, power, and harmony. The festival is observed with great devotion and enthusiasm throughout India.
