Two Dead, Several Rescued After Part of Dilapidated Building Collapses in Jamshedpur

A tragic incident unfolded in Jharkhand’s Jamshedpur on Saturday evening when a portion of a dilapidated building at MGM Hospital collapsed, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. According to Senior Superintendent of Police, East Singhbhum, 15 people were initially reported trapped under the debris, of whom 12 have been rescued so far.

“Two bodies have been recovered… Twelve of them have been rescued,” the SSP confirmed, adding that rescue operations were swiftly carried out at the site.

In response to the tragedy, Jharkhand Health Minister Irfan Ansari announced ₹5 lakh compensation for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for those injured. He emphasized that the government would take strong preventive measures to avoid similar incidents in the future.

“We are here on the Chief Minister’s instructions. Our priority is to support the families affected. The government is committed to taking concrete steps so this doesn’t happen again,” Ansari told reporters.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, and further updates are awaited as investigations and structural assessments proceed.
