Tamil Nadu Minister and senior DMK leader K N Nehru on Friday hit out at Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay for addressing Chief Minister M K Stalin as “Uncle” during a public conference in Madurai, calling the remark “arrogant and low-standard.”

Speaking to reporters, Nehru said the actor-turned-politician’s comments showed disrespect towards a leader with over four decades of political experience.

“That shows his level. To criticise a Chief Minister who has been in politics for more than 40 years, by someone who has just stepped into politics, is a low-standard comment. People will give a fitting reply. We will also respond appropriately during elections. Just because a few people clap, it does not mean what is being said is right,” Nehru stated.

On Thursday, Vijay addressed the second state conference of TVK in Madurai, which drew large crowds of party workers. In his speech, the TVK leader launched a sharp attack on the ruling DMK, accusing it of maintaining a “secret alliance” with the BJP.

“Uncle Stalin, if you have a conscience, answer the questions we are asking. Is your government honest? Is it corruption-free? Is law and order maintained? Are women and the public safe? Tell us, my dear uncle,” Vijay said.

He further alleged that while DMK shouted “Go back Modi!” in opposition, it welcomed the Prime Minister once in power.

With TVK’s growing presence, Vijay aims to position his party as a third alternative in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, challenging both the ruling DMK and opposition AIADMK.
