Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributed over 65 lakh property cards to property owners under the SVAMITVA scheme during a special program in Ahmedabad. The initiative aims to enhance economic progress in rural India by providing accurate property ownership records. BJP National President JP Nadda and Union Ministers were present at the event.
Addressing the gathering, JP Nadda emphasized the government’s focus on empowering marginalized communities, including farmers, women, youth, and Dalits, under PM Modi’s leadership. Highlighting the holistic approach of the government, he said, “Empowerment of the common man has been a priority under Modi ji’s leadership. Guided by the mantra of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas, the government has implemented schemes focusing on villages, the poor, and the deprived sections of society.”
Nadda also spoke about the impact of the SVAMITVA scheme, mentioning that over 3 lakh villages have been covered using advanced technology. “Through the SVAMITVA scheme, thousands of villagers are being given property rights, which is a monumental step in empowering rural India,” he said.
The SVAMITVA (Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas) scheme, launched on April 24, 2020, on National Panchayati Raj Day, uses drone and GIS technology to survey inhabited areas in villages. The scheme aims to provide a “Record of Rights” to rural households, enabling clear property ownership records, reducing land disputes, and facilitating economic opportunities.
Key benefits of the scheme include:
- Reducing property disputes by providing accurate ownership data.
- Enabling monetization of properties and access to institutional credit through bank loans.
- Facilitating better property tax assessment and comprehensive village-level planning.
The scheme has reached full implementation in states and Union Territories such as Puducherry, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Tripura, Goa, Uttarakhand, and Haryana. Drone surveys have also been completed in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and several other regions.
JP Nadda highlighted the government’s broader initiatives under PM Modi to uplift the poor, including providing free food grains to 80 crore people. “Over 25 crore people have risen above the poverty line under Modi ji’s leadership, and schemes like SVAMITVA are contributing significantly to this progress,” Nadda stated.
The SVAMITVA scheme represents a milestone in India’s rural empowerment journey, fostering economic growth and good governance while transforming lives in the heart of rural India.
