Uttar Pradesh Additional Director General (ADG) of Law and Order, Amitabh Yash, confirmed on Monday that Sonam Raghuvanshi, wife of the late Raja Raghuvanshi, will be handed over to the Meghalaya Police once they arrive in Ghazipur. He clarified that the UP Police has not interrogated her, as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the Meghalaya Police.

“Sonam Raghuvanshi called her family around 3 a.m. and informed them she was at the Kashi Dhaba on the Varanasi-Ghazipur main road. Her family alerted Indore Police, who then contacted UP Police. Acting on this, Ghazipur Police took her to the hospital and then to the One Stop Centre,” ADG Amitabh Yash told ANI.

Sonam was found near a dhaba on the Varanasi-Ghazipur route after she went missing along with her husband during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. Raja Raghuvanshi’s body was later recovered on June 2.

While Meghalaya Police claimed that Sonam surrendered, her brother-in-law Vipul Raghuvanshi stated the family will not consider her an accused unless she confesses. However, he added, “If Sonam is involved, she should be punished.” He also called for a CBI investigation, citing a lack of cooperation from the Meghalaya Police.

Sonam’s father, Devi Singh, maintained his daughter’s innocence and accused the Meghalaya government of “fabricating stories.” He stated she voluntarily reached the dhaba and called her brother before the police arrived.

Three suspects from Madhya Pradesh have already been arrested in connection with Raja’s murder, according to Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma. Meghalaya DGP further confirmed that the woman who surrendered was Sonam Raghuvanshi. The investigation continues, with calls for a CBI probe growing from both families.
