Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal hit back at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who had criticized the Delhi government over the law and order situation in the capital. Kejriwal pointed out that law and order in Delhi falls under the jurisdiction of the Union Home Ministry and suggested that Yogi Adityanath should guide Home Minister Amit Shah on how to improve it.
Speaking to the media, Kejriwal highlighted the poor law and order situation in Delhi, alleging that “11 gangsters” have taken control of the capital. He also accused Amit Shah of being preoccupied with “toppling governments” and “poaching MLAs” instead of addressing critical issues.
“Yogi ji came to Delhi today and raised questions about the law and order situation here. He said he has improved law and order in UP. I agree with Yogi ji—Delhi’s law and order is in a terrible state. Eleven gangsters have captured the entire city. Gangsters roam freely, firing occurs on streets, and women feel unsafe leaving their homes,” Kejriwal said.
He continued, “The law and order in Delhi comes under Amit Shah. Yogi ji should sit with him and explain how to improve it. Amit Shah is busy toppling governments and poaching MLAs, leaving Delhi in chaos.”
Yogi Adityanath, addressing a public gathering in Janakpuri on Thursday, accused the AAP government of “instigating riots” in 2020 with the involvement of illegal Bangladeshi migrants. He alleged that AAP councillors and officials contributed to the violence and unrest in areas like Shaheen Bagh.
“With the help of Bangladeshi infiltrators, their councillors and officials instigated the 2020 riots in Delhi. They created chaos and hooliganism in Shaheen Bagh. If you look at states with BJP’s double-engine governments, you’ll find a clean and secure environment. Form a double-engine government in Delhi, and we will transform it into Indraprastha once again,” Yogi Adityanath said.
The political exchange comes as the Delhi Assembly elections approach. Voting will take place on February 5, with results to be announced on February 8.
The AAP, which dominated the 2015 and 2020 elections by winning 67 and 62 seats, respectively, faces a challenge from the BJP, which secured only three and eight seats in those elections. Meanwhile, the Congress, which governed Delhi for 15 years, has struggled to regain its footing, failing to win any seats in the last two elections.
As campaign rhetoric intensifies, both parties are focusing on law and order, development, and governance as key issues to sway voters ahead of the polls.
