Tensions escalated in Delhi’s Seelampur area as locals continued protests on Friday following the fatal stabbing of a 17-year-old boy. The victim’s mother has alleged police complicity, claiming authorities failed to act swiftly or keep the family informed, allowing the suspects to flee.
Speaking to ANI, the grieving mother recounted the events leading up to her son’s death. “My son had a fight a few days ago. He wasn’t even involved—he was just watching and got beaten up. He was threatened. We took him to the hospital. Two days later, he went out to buy a samosa and some milk. Within 15 minutes, we got the news that he had been stabbed,” she said.
She further claimed that the doctor who previously treated her son had also been assaulted. “The police haven’t arrested anyone. The accused locked up their homes and left the area. Despite multiple threats to children from the same group, police have remained silent,” she alleged.
Protests erupted in the locality on Thursday night and carried into Friday, with hundreds blocking roads and raising slogans. Protesters held placards reading, “Modi ji madad karo, Yogi model chahiye” (PM Modi, help us, we want the Yogi model), demanding stronger law enforcement.
Locals also voiced longstanding grievances about rising violence and harassment in the neighborhood. “Since 2012, murders have become frequent. In 2010, my own son was stabbed. People are being forced to sell their homes and move due to fear,” said one protester.
Women in the area have also reported repeated harassment. “Girls face abuse daily—men blow smoke in their faces, grab them, and hurl abuses. We’ve complained, but no action is ever taken,” said another resident.
In response, Additional DCP of Northeast Delhi, Sandeep Lamba, assured the public that action was being taken. “Raids are underway. The accused will be caught soon. The investigation is ongoing,” he said.
According to police, the teenage victim was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The community continues to demand justice and accountability as tension remains high in the area.
