Security forces have intensified their search operations in the Kathua-Samba sector of Jammu and Kashmir, focusing on the Samba region near the international border. The operation aims to sanitize the area and track down any remaining threats following recent terrorist activity.
The search in Kathua remains ongoing after the deadly encounter in Sufian, which saw four Jammu and Kashmir police personnel lose their lives while eliminating two terrorists. Authorities have placed the entire region on high alert. War-like stores were recovered from the encounter site.
The counter-terror operation, codenamed ‘Safiyan,’ began on March 23 after locals in Sanyal reported suspected Pakistani infiltrators. Security forces, including J&K Police, the Army, BSF, and CRPF, swiftly launched a search operation, leading to an intense exchange of fire.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha visited Government Medical College Hospital Jammu to check on injured police personnel and assured their families of full support. He directed hospital authorities to provide the best possible medical care for their recovery.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh also visited the home of Selection Grade Constable (SgCT) Balvinder Singh, who lost his life in the operation. He assured that government jobs would be arranged for the families of the deceased officers.
Former J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah emphasized the need for a strong counterterrorism strategy, stating that terror activities must be controlled to bring lasting peace to the region. His comments follow the recent rise in terrorist incidents in Jammu, including the Kathua encounter.
