A District Judge Court in Sambhal has issued a notice to Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, directing him to respond or appear in court on April 4 regarding a complaint filed against his statement that “Our fight is not against BJP or RSS, but against the Indian state.”
Advocate Sachin Goyal confirmed on Thursday that the court accepted the complaint and summoned Gandhi. “Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had made a statement on January 15, 2025, saying, ‘We are now fighting the BJP, the RSS, and the Indian State itself.’ A complaint was filed by Simran Gupta in the special MP/MLA court seeking an FIR against him. The CJM had dismissed it on jurisdictional grounds,” Goyal stated.
Following a revision petition, the Sambhal District Judge Court took up the case and issued the summons.
The controversy stems from Gandhi’s remarks made during the inauguration of Congress’s new headquarters, Indira Bhawan, where he accused the BJP and RSS of capturing India’s institutions. “Do not think we are fighting a fair fight. If you believe we are only up against a political organization called BJP or RSS, you have not understood what is going on. The BJP and RSS have taken control of every institution in our country. We are now fighting the BJP, the RSS, and the Indian State itself,” Gandhi had declared.
The case has sparked fresh political debate, with the Congress defending Gandhi’s statement as a critique of institutional erosion under the BJP, while the ruling party and its allies accuse him of making anti-national remarks.
