Businessman Robert Vadra, husband of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, has expressed openness to entering active politics, saying he would take the plunge with the blessings of his family if the Congress party felt the time was right.

In an exclusive interview with ANI on Monday, Vadra acknowledged his longstanding association with politics due to his connection with the Gandhi family, but clarified that he has not yet held any political position.

“My association with politics is only because I’m a member of the Gandhi family,” Vadra said. “But over the years, my name has repeatedly been dragged into political debates—especially during elections or when there are attempts to divert attention from pressing issues.”

Describing this as a form of political vendetta, Vadra said he has often been used as a distraction. “Every time there’s an election or an issue to deflect from, they remember my name,” he added.

He praised the dedication of his wife Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and brother-in-law Rahul Gandhi, stating that he has learned a lot from observing their work. “I always said I’d like Priyanka to be in Parliament first, and now she is. I’ve seen how hard she works, and how much I’ve learned from her and Rahul,” Vadra shared.

Vadra said that if the Congress believes his presence in politics would help strengthen the party’s voice against divisive forces, he is ready. “If the Congress feels I should be in politics, and with the blessings of my family, I will take that step,” he said, adding that he has deep knowledge of ground realities and the changes people are seeking.

On a separate note, Vadra also reacted to the arrest of fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi in Belgium. Calling it a significant development, he urged the government to now focus on recovering the defrauded funds and compensating the victims.

“Arresting is important, but what’s more important is that the money lost by people should be recovered. The government must now focus on that. Nirav Modi and others should also be brought back,” Vadra said.

Choksi, wanted in a ₹13,850 crore fraud case involving Punjab National Bank, was arrested in Belgium on Saturday. His nephew Nirav Modi is also a key accused in the case.
