Businessman Robert Vadra on Tuesday accused the central government of targeting him through political vendetta, as he appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a land deal case in Gurugram.

Vadra, who is married to Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, walked from his residence to the ED office in Delhi in a show of defiance. Addressing the media, he said, “Whenever I raise my voice for the people, the opposition tries to suppress me. This is political vendetta. They misuse agencies to create pressure, but I have nothing to hide and no fear.”

Outside the ED office, Congress supporters raised slogans accusing the Modi government of misusing investigative agencies, chanting, “Jab jab Modi darta hai, ED ko aage karta hai.”

On Monday, a day before his appearance, Vadra had expressed openness to joining active politics. “If the Congress party wants me to join, I will do so with my family’s blessings,” he said, while underscoring that his public profile has often made him a political target.

He claimed that his association with the Gandhi family has made him an easy scapegoat for opponents during election cycles or when trying to divert public attention. “Every time there’s an election or an issue, they remember my name. It’s like a political witch hunt,” he remarked.

Vadra also acknowledged the influence of his wife Priyanka and brother-in-law Rahul Gandhi in shaping his understanding of politics. “They actively participate in Parliament and have been a great source of learning for me,” he said.

The ED summons is the latest in a series of legal battles Vadra has faced, which he insists are politically motivated attempts to discredit him and the Congress party.
