Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Monday appealed to the Congress and other opposition parties not to create disruptions in Parliament over matters concerning the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Speaking at a press conference, Rijiju stressed that any disagreement between political parties and the ECI should be addressed directly with the Commission, not debated in Parliament.

“The issue between the Election Commission and the Congress party should be discussed in the Election Commission and not in the Parliament. We are not the spokespersons of ECI. ECI is an autonomous body, and we cannot answer on their behalf,” Rijiju stated.

He urged the opposition benches to avoid creating a “ruckus” in the House on issues relating to the Commission.

Alongside this, Rijiju announced that Parliament will hold a special discussion to honour Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, who recently returned from the International Space Station (ISS) after participating in NASA’s Axiom-4 (AX-4) mission.

“In Parliament today, we are going to honour Captain Shubhanshu Shukla. We will discuss his space visit and India’s space mission in detail,” Rijiju said, expressing hope for bipartisan participation similar to that seen during the discussion on Operation Sindoor.

Captain Shukla, who splashed down off the coast of California on July 15, became the first Indian in 41 years to travel to space. He landed in Delhi on Sunday after completing the month-long mission.
