Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh announced on Monday that the Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH), indigenously designed and developed, will not participate in this year’s Republic Day flypast.

Speaking at a press conference, Singh said, “The ALH will not be part of the parade, but 39 other aircraft will participate, showcasing 12 different formations.”

The decision follows the January 5 crash of a Coast Guard ALH in Porbandar, Gujarat, which led to the grounding of the entire fleet of approximately 330 twin-engine choppers. The tragic incident claimed the lives of three Coast Guard personnel.

Singh assured that the military essence of the parade would remain intact while highlighting efforts to increase societal and cultural representation. “The military and martial character of the parade is being maintained, but there will be a wider participation of society and culture,” he noted.

Preparations for the parade are in full swing. MI-17 V-5 helicopters, Apache attack helicopters, Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launchers, and various all-terrain vehicles were part of the rehearsals at Kartavya Path on Monday.

Enhanced security measures have been implemented across the Delhi Metro network in light of the Republic Day celebrations on January 26. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has intensified security checks at Metro stations, which may cause delays, particularly during peak hours. Passengers are advised to plan extra time for their commute and cooperate with security personnel.

In a spectacular display of skill, the Indian Army’s Motorcycle Rider Display Team, known as the “Daredevils,” set a new world record on January 20, 2025. The team created the highest human pyramid on moving motorcycles at Kartavya Path, New Delhi.

The formation, measuring 20.4 feet high and involving 40 men on seven motorcycles, covered a distance of 2 kilometers from Vijay Chowk to India Gate.

The “Daredevils,” hailing from the Corps of Signals, are renowned for their extraordinary performances and have earned international acclaim over the years.

This year’s Republic Day celebrations promise a harmonious blend of military might and cultural diversity, underscoring India’s unity and strength.
