Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the DRDO-MHA Collaboration Conference-cum-Exhibition in New Delhi on Tuesday, emphasizing the evolving nature of security threats and the importance of shaping adaptive security policies.
Speaking at the Seminar on Advanced Technologies for Internal Security, Singh described internal and external security as “two sides of the same coin” and stressed the need to understand the changing nature of both. “We are facing new challenges in this era — threats like terrorism, separatist movements, left-wing extremism, communal tensions, trans-border illegal immigration, and organized crime on the internal front. Externally, we have our own set of challenges,” he stated.
The Defence Minister highlighted the shift from conventional threats to unconventional ones, pointing out the rise of hybrid warfare and cyber and space-based challenges. “Earlier, threats were mostly conventional, but today we see unconventional threats in large numbers. We must prepare for hybrid warfare and advanced technological challenges,” he said.
Dr. Samir V Kamat, Secretary of DRDO, also underscored the importance of collaboration between users and developers. “This conference allows both parties to discuss their requirements and challenges freely, which is essential for meeting future security needs. DRDO is not only developing weapon systems but also working on ways to neutralize them,” Kamat noted.
The event brought together experts and officials to explore advanced security technologies, highlighting the importance of innovation and cooperation in safeguarding national security.
