Congress MP and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling for a special session of Parliament in the aftermath of the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

In his letter, Gandhi emphasized that the attack, which claimed 26 lives, had outraged every Indian and underscored the urgent need for a unified national response.

“The terrorist attack in Pahalgam has outraged every Indian. At this critical time, India must show that we will always stand together against terrorism,” Gandhi wrote.

He urged the Prime Minister to convene a special session of both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, allowing the representatives of the people to publicly demonstrate unity and resolve against terrorism.
“The Opposition believes that a special session should be convened at the earliest, where representatives can show their collective determination,” the letter stated.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also sent a similar letter to the Prime Minister, reinforcing the demand for a joint parliamentary session. Kharge highlighted that such a session would be an important signal of India’s collective resolve to fight terrorism and an opportunity for the nation’s leadership to present a united front.

The call for a special session comes amid heightened political attention to national security and mounting public anger following the Pahalgam attack.

Earlier on Monday, the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly held a special session to condemn the attack. A resolution moved by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary was unanimously adopted, expressing solidarity with the victims and endorsing diplomatic steps taken by the Union Government following a Cabinet Committee on Security meeting.

The April 22 attack in Pahalgam, which targeted tourists, is one of the deadliest terror incidents in the region since the 2019 Pulwama strike that killed 40 CRPF personnel.

In response to the latest attack, India has implemented strong measures against Pakistan, citing its continued support for cross-border terrorism.
