Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday came out strongly in support of his brother-in-law Robert Vadra, denouncing the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) move to attach 43 properties worth ₹37.64 crore as part of an ongoing probe. Gandhi termed the action as a continuation of a “politically motivated witch hunt” by the central government.

In a post on social media platform X, Rahul Gandhi wrote: “My brother-in-law has been hounded by this government for the last ten years. This latest chargesheet is a continuation of that witch hunt.

I stand with Robert, Priyanka and their children as they face yet another onslaught of malicious, politically motivated slander and harassment.
I know that they are all brave enough to withstand any kind of persecution and they will continue to do so with dignity. The truth will eventually prevail.”

The ED action comes after the agency issued a provisional attachment order on July 16 in connection with a case involving the alleged fraudulent purchase of 3.53 acres of land in Gurugram’s Shikohpur village in 2008. The case was originally registered by Gurugram Police in September 2018.

According to officials, the attached assets are linked to Vadra and his firms, including Sky Light Hospitality Pvt Ltd, and are part of ongoing proceedings related to money laundering and land dealings.

Vadra’s office responded by reaffirming his innocence, asserting that the investigation was “an extension of the political witch hunt” and that he remains committed to full cooperation with the authorities.

“Mr Vadra is a law-abiding citizen. He has always cooperated with investigative agencies and will continue to do so. He remains confident that the truth will prevail and he will be cleared of any wrongdoing,” read a statement issued by his office.

The Enforcement Directorate has also filed a prosecution complaint (chargesheet) against Vadra and 10 others, though the Rouse Avenue Court has yet to take cognisance of the matter.

The Congress party has repeatedly alleged that central agencies are being used as tools for political vendetta ahead of elections, a charge the BJP-led government has denied.
