Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Thursday emphasized the need for a caste census while recalling Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s historic Mahad Satyagraha. In a discussion with Professor Sukhadeo Thorat, a member of Telangana’s caste survey panel, Gandhi highlighted the ongoing struggle of Dalits for equal access to governance, education, and resources.

Taking to X, Gandhi remarked that Ambedkar’s 1927 Satyagraha was not just about water rights but a broader fight for equality and respect. He criticized opponents of the caste census for attempting to suppress the truth and reiterated that Babasaheb’s dream remains unfulfilled.

During the discussion, both leaders stressed that caste-based inequalities persist today, making the caste census a crucial step in addressing systemic discrimination. Gandhi vowed to continue Ambedkar’s fight with full force, asserting that the struggle for justice and representation is far from over.
