In light of the Mahakumbh Mela and various religious and cultural events, as well as upcoming competitive exams, the Prayagraj police have issued prohibitory orders to maintain law and order in the district until February 28, 2025.
The announcement was made by Additional Commissioner of Police, Prayagraj, on Friday, under Section-163 of the Indian Civil Security Code, 2023 (Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023). The prohibitory order covers a wide range of restrictions to prevent disruptions during this busy period, which includes several significant festivals and events.
The orders specifically address the need to prevent any disturbances caused by anti-social elements during a period marked by numerous religious festivals and exams. The upcoming events include Mahakumbh 2025/Amrit Snan, Republic Day, Mauni Amavasya, Basant Panchami, Sant Ravidas Jayanti, Maghi Purnima, Valentine’s Day, Shab-e-Barat, and Mahashivratri.
To maintain peace and ensure the smooth conduct of these events, the following restrictions are in place:
- Events and Processions: No person or group can organize any event, procession, or demonstration without the prior approval of the competent authority. Public gatherings and roadblocks are strictly prohibited.
- Designated Protest Sites: All protests must be confined to the designated protest site near Patthar Church in Civil Lines, Prayagraj.
- Drone Restrictions: The use of drones is banned during religious events unless authorized by the competent authority. Only drones for police or administrative purposes are exempt.
- Weapons and Lethal Objects: Carrying any form of weapon, including sticks, axes, or firearms, is prohibited in the district, except for police and administrative officers.
- Harmful Speech and Publications: Provocative speeches, publications, or any material that may hurt the sentiments of any community are banned.
- Rumor-Mongering: Spreading rumors or provocative content through social media or other platforms that could incite unrest is prohibited.
- Media Content Restrictions: Audio or video cassettes, CDs, or materials that could create confusion or tension among the public are not allowed.
- Damage to Property: Vandalizing public or private property is strictly prohibited.
- Obstruction to Businesses and Services: Forcing the closure of businesses, government offices, or factories, or obstructing the movement of essential goods, is not permitted.
- Transport Disruptions: No person is allowed to halt public transportation, including buses, or damage vehicles.
- Traffic Blockages: Creating obstructions on public roads or inciting traffic disruptions is banned.
The Mahakumbh Mela, which began on January 13, will continue until February 26, with several key bathing dates that are significant to the event:
- January 29: Mauni Amavasya (Second Shahi Snan)
- February 3: Basant Panchami (Third Shahi Snan)
- February 12: Maghi Purnima
- February 26: Maha Shivaratri
The prohibitory orders will remain in effect from January 16 to February 28, ensuring that the Mahakumbh Mela and other major events in Prayagraj proceed peacefully and without incident. The police have made it clear that these measures are essential for public safety and the smooth conduct of both religious and secular activities.
