Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who arrived at Kannur Airport on Saturday morning, stated that she had not yet checked the early trends of the Delhi Assembly election results.
Responding to a query from the media regarding the vote counting trends, Priyanka, who represents Wayanad, said, “I don’t know, I haven’t checked the results yet.”
As per the Election Commission’s early trends, the BJP crossed the majority mark in the Delhi Assembly elections. The BJP, which had been in power in Delhi for 15 years, was seen leading in most of the constituencies in the 70-member assembly. In contrast, Congress had won eight seats in the 2013 assembly elections.
The election saw a voter turnout of 60.54%, with polling held on February 5. Along with Delhi, the counting for by-elections in Uttar Pradesh’s Milkipur seat and Tamil Nadu’s Erode seat is also underway.
Meanwhile, as the BJP surged ahead in the early trends, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah took a dig at Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) members, both part of the opposition INDIA bloc. Sharing a meme on X, Abdullah remarked, “Aur lado aapas mein!!!” (Fight amongst yourselves some more), referring to the rivalry between Congress and AAP despite their alliance under the INDIA bloc.
The BJP is currently leading in 41 seats in Delhi’s 70-member legislature, while AAP is trailing behind. Despite the early trends, AAP leaders have expressed confidence that they will be able to secure a third consecutive term, despite most exit polls predicting a BJP advantage. Key constituencies to watch include New Delhi, where AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal is contesting against Congress’s Sandeep Dikshit and BJP’s Parvesh Verma.
