President Droupadi Murmu visited Prayagraj on Monday to take a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati, during the ongoing Mahakumbh Mela 2025.
After her sacred ritual, President Murmu offered prayers at the holy site. Upon her arrival in Prayagraj, she was warmly received by Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The Rashtrapati Bhavan shared the news on social media, stating, “Governor of Uttar Pradesh Smt Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath received President Droupadi Murmu on her arrival at Prayagraj.”
Following the ceremony, the President also fed migratory birds at Triveni Sangam, continuing a tradition of reverence for nature during the spiritual gathering.
Earlier on the same day, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, accompanied by his family, also participated in the holy dip at Triveni Sangam. Expressing his gratitude, Dhami called the experience “fortunate” and shared that preparations for the Kumbh Mela 2027 in Haridwar were already underway. He said, “People from all over the world are coming here for a holy dip of faith… The Kumbh of 2027 will be in Haridwar, and we have already started preparations for it.”
The Mahakumbh 2025 has seen millions of devotees. On Sunday alone, around 8.429 million people took a dip at the Sangam, with over 420 million pilgrims participating so far. The event, which began on Paush Purnima (January 13), is set to continue until Mahashivratri on February 26. As the largest spiritual and cultural gathering in the world, Mahakumbh 2025 has drawn devotees from across the globe and is expected to break attendance records.
