President Droupadi Murmu met with the top leadership of the Indian Armed Forces at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday, where she was formally briefed about Operation Sindoor, India’s latest and robust military response to terrorism.

The meeting included Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh, and Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi. In a post on X, Rashtrapati Bhavan said President Murmu commended the “valour and dedication” of the Indian Armed Forces that led to the success of the operation.

The Indian Armed Forces carried out coordinated strikes on nine terror camps located deep inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) on May 7, in response to the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed several innocent lives.

Following the attack, the Indian government also took the unprecedented step of suspending the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 with Pakistan, signalling a shift in its strategic posture.

In his May 12 national address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared Operation Sindoor as the new normal in India’s counter-terrorism doctrine. He placed it alongside the 2016 surgical strike and 2019 Balakot air strike, reiterating that India’s stance on terrorism is non-negotiable.

“Water and blood cannot flow together,” PM Modi said, referring to the suspension of the water treaty. He further asserted that any future dialogue with Pakistan would be limited to the issue of terrorism and the return of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Operation Sindoor, as described by the Prime Minister, has now set a new benchmark in India’s counter-terror policy, underlining a strong message of zero tolerance towards terrorism.
