President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, on Monday to participate in the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela 2025. Upon her arrival, she was warmly welcomed by Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, as confirmed by the Rashtrapati Bhavan via a post on X.
The President is set to take a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam, the sacred confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati. Following her arrival, President Murmu also participated in a symbolic gesture of feeding migratory birds at the Sangam, a tradition observed by many pilgrims.
Earlier in the day, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, along with his family, also visited Prayagraj and took a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam. Speaking to ANI, CM Dhami expressed his gratitude, calling the experience “fortunate,” and also mentioned that preparations for the Kumbh Mela 2027 in Haridwar are already in progress.
As of Sunday, the Uttar Pradesh government reported that around 8.4 million devotees had participated in the holy dip at the Maha Kumbh 2025, bringing the total number of devotees to over 420 million so far.
The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, which began on Paush Purnima (January 13), is the world’s largest spiritual and cultural gathering, attracting millions of pilgrims from across India and beyond. The event, which will run until Mahashivratri on February 26, is expected to set new records for attendance and participation.
