The ongoing Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj has witnessed an unprecedented turnout, with over 540 million devotees taking a holy dip in the first 36 days of the event. The massive spiritual congregation, which is the largest human gathering in the world, is set to conclude on February 26. Authorities anticipate even more devotees will visit the Triveni Sangam for the sacred ritual in the remaining days.
As of February 17, 2025, by 8 PM, more than 13.5 million people had participated in the event, marking a significant milestone in the 45-day-long religious gathering, according to official data. Devotees continued to flock to the Triveni Sangam, with large crowds arriving at the Prayagraj Railway Station on Monday.
To manage the overwhelming numbers, police officials have remained vigilant throughout the event. The Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), G.P. Singh, reviewed security arrangements for the Maha Kumbh on Sunday and praised the collaboration between the Uttar Pradesh Police, CRPF, and other agencies involved in maintaining safety.
A post on the CRPF’s X account stated, “In Prayagraj, DG G.P. Singh assessed security arrangements for the Maha Kumbh, guiding CRPF officials on balancing vigilance with seamless public assistance. He appreciated the fine synergy between UP Police, CRPF, and all agencies involved, commending their hard work so far in maintaining security.”
In response to the high volume of passengers during the Maha Kumbh and following the recent stampede at New Delhi Railway Station, Northern Railway has introduced four special trains to ensure smooth travel for devotees. Additionally, Central Railway has also announced the operation of four special trains for pilgrims heading to Prayagraj.
As the event continues to draw millions, the efforts to manage the crowd and ensure the safety of all participants remain a priority.
