A fire that broke out on Friday morning in the Mahakumbh Mela area in Prayagraj has been successfully brought under control, with no casualties reported, officials confirmed.
The blaze, which started at the ISKCON tent, spread to 20-22 other tents. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported. Chief Fire Officer Pramod Sharma stated, “The fire began at the ISKCON tent and spread to nearby tents. It has now been contained, and there have been no burn injuries or loss of life.”
A police official added that the cause of the fire is under investigation. SP City Sarvesh Kumar Mishra also confirmed that there were no casualties and that authorities are working to determine the cause of the incident.
The fire erupted in Sector 18 of the Mahakumbh Mela Kshetra, prompting immediate action from the fire department. This incident follows a similar fire last week in the Chatnag Ghat Police Station area, where 15 unauthorized tents caught fire. Again, no casualties occurred, and the fire was quickly extinguished.
Earlier incidents at the Mahakumbh Mela have included a fire caused by an explosion of cooking gas cylinders and a tragic stampede on January 29, which led to 30 deaths and 60 injuries. In response, the Uttar Pradesh government announced financial aid of Rs 25 lakh for the victims’ families and ordered a judicial inquiry into the stampede.
The Mahakumbh, which began on January 13, is scheduled to continue until February 26. Key dates for the remaining holy dips include February 12 (Maghi Purnima) and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri).
