BJP MP and Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) Chairman PP Chaudhary will move a motion in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday seeking an extension of the panel’s tenure for examining the ‘One Nation, One Election’ legislation until the first day of the last week of the 2025 Winter Session of Parliament.
As per the motion, Chaudhary—along with Congress MP Manish Tiwari—will request more time for the JPC to present its report on the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Ninth Amendment) Bill, 2024 and the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024. Both bills, introduced in December 2024, were referred to the JPC for further scrutiny.
The Lok Sabha is also set to consider the Indian Ports Bill, 2025, to be moved by Union Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. The proposed legislation seeks to consolidate port-related laws, promote integrated port development, improve ease of doing business, and ensure optimal utilisation of India’s coastline. It also aims to establish State Maritime Boards, set up a Maritime State Development Council, strengthen port management and safety measures, and ensure compliance with international obligations.
Additionally, Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy will introduce a bill to amend the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957. Several MPs, including Anurag Thakur, Shreyas M Patil, and Hemang Joshi, will table reports of various parliamentary standing committees on matters related to commerce, coal, mines, education, and sports.
