Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his 79th Independence Day speech from the Red Fort, delivered a strong warning to Pakistan while celebrating the success of Operation Sindoor, India’s retaliatory strike on terror infrastructure deep inside Pakistani territory.
Calling the operation an “expression of India’s outrage” over the April 22 Pahalgam massacre—where terrorists killed civilians after asking their religion—PM Modi saluted the armed forces for their unprecedented action. “Our brave jawans punished the enemy beyond its imagination,” he said, noting that the mission destroyed terrorist headquarters hundreds of kilometres inside enemy soil.
The Prime Minister emphasised that India would not differentiate between terrorists and their backers. “They are an equal danger to humanity with no difference. If the enemy dares any misadventure, our forces will give a befitting reply. We have set a new normal,” he asserted, adding that India will no longer tolerate “nuclear blackmail.”
PM Modi also took aim at the Indus Water Treaty, calling it “one-sided” and unfair to Indian farmers. “The rivers of India were irrigating the enemy country while our farmers were deprived of water. Now, the right over India’s share of water belongs only to India and its farmers. A compromise on farmers’ interests and national interests is not acceptable,” he said.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed that the era of compromise on security and sovereignty is over, declaring, “Bharat has decided that blood and water will not flow together.”
