After the NDA Parliamentary Party meeting on Tuesday, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to all MPs, including those from the Opposition, to extend support to CP Radhakrishnan, the NDA’s Vice Presidential candidate.
Rijiju informed that PM Modi personally introduced Radhakrishnan to floor leaders at the meeting. “The NDA candidate for the Vice Presidential election, CP Radhakrishnan, was warmly welcomed and congratulated by MPs and leaders. Prime Minister Modi gave his introduction, and everyone thanked him for the choice,” he said.
The Union Minister stressed that PM Modi’s appeal was aimed at ensuring a unanimous outcome. “The Prime Minister urged the entire House, especially the Opposition, to support Radhakrishnan. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is reaching out to leaders across parties to build consensus,” Rijiju added, noting that such unity would strengthen democracy and facilitate the smooth functioning of the Rajya Sabha.
Praising Radhakrishnan’s integrity, Rijiju said: “He has lived a simple, controversy-free life. With no corruption or blemishes, his entire career has been dedicated to society and the nation. If such a person becomes Vice President, it will be a matter of great pride for India.”
Earlier in the day, PM Modi felicitated CP Radhakrishnan at the Parliamentary Party meeting, which was also attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Ministers Jitendra Singh, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Kiren Rijiju, L Murugan, and MPs Sambit Patra and Subhash Barala.
Radhakrishnan will formally file his nomination papers on August 20 at 11 am, with around 160 members, including 20 proposers and 20 supporters, expected to join him. The election for the post of Vice President is scheduled for September 9.
