Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday called for heightened economic alertness in light of prevailing global instability and reiterated the government’s unwavering focus on farmers’ welfare, youth employment, and support for small industries.

Addressing a rally during his 51st visit to his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi, the Prime Minister stressed that while India is on track to becoming the world’s third-largest economy, it must remain vigilant to protect its economic interests.

“There is an atmosphere of global instability. All countries are prioritising their own interests. India, too, must remain alert to safeguard its economic progress,” PM Modi said.

Highlighting the importance of self-reliance, the Prime Minister once again made a strong pitch for the ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign and urged all citizens, including the business community, to prioritise Indian-made products.

“We will buy only what is made by Indians. This is not just an economic decision, it’s a patriotic resolution. Those who want to see India emerge as the third biggest economy must commit to buying swadeshi goods,” he added.

Referring to India’s response to rising global trade tensions, especially after the US imposed 25% tariffs on Indian goods and warned of further actions over India’s energy ties with Russia, PM Modi underlined the need for national unity and economic resilience.

He reaffirmed that the core priority of his government remains the upliftment of the agriculture sector, small-scale industries, and creating employment opportunities for youth.

“Our farmers, our MSMEs, and the future of our youth are at the centre of our developmental efforts. But this is a shared responsibility—we all must contribute by choosing local products,” he said.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone and inaugurated development projects worth ₹2,200 crore in Varanasi. These include the widening of key roads, construction of railway overbridges, and infrastructure upgrades across both urban and rural areas.

The projects are expected to ease traffic congestion, improve connectivity, and enhance overall civic infrastructure in the region.
