Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Bihar and West Bengal on Thursday to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of infrastructure, connectivity, health, and urban development projects worth over ₹18,000 crore, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
The day-long visit begins in Gaya, Bihar, where the Prime Minister will launch projects worth nearly ₹13,000 crore. He will inaugurate the 8.15 km-long Aunta–Simaria bridge on NH-31, including a 1.86 km six-lane bridge across the Ganga built at a cost of ₹1,870 crore. The project is expected to cut over 100 km of extra travel for heavy vehicles and boost connectivity between North and South Bihar.
Other key projects in Bihar include:
- Inauguration of the Buxar Thermal Power Plant (660 MW, ₹6,880 crore) to enhance power generation capacity.
- Launch of the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre in Muzaffarpur, providing advanced and affordable cancer care.
- Commissioning of the Bakhtiyarpur–Mokama four-lane section of NH-31 (₹1,900 crore) to ease congestion and reduce travel time.
- Multiple sewerage treatment projects under Namami Gange (₹520 crore) and urban infrastructure initiatives worth ₹1,260 crore.
- Grih Pravesh ceremonies for over 16,000 beneficiaries under PMAY-Gramin and PMAY-Urban housing schemes.
The Prime Minister will also flag off two new trains—the Amrit Bharat Express between Gaya and Delhi, and the Buddhist Circuit Train from Vaishali to Koderma, boosting both passenger convenience and tourism.
Later in the day, PM Modi will reach Kolkata, where he will inaugurate projects worth over ₹5,200 crore. These include:
- Launch of 13.61 km of new metro routes, including the Noapara–Jai Hind Bimanbandar service, which will provide direct airport connectivity.
- Inauguration of the Sealdah–Esplanade metro (reducing travel time from 40 minutes to 11 minutes) and the Beleghata–Hemanta Mukhopadhyay metro, improving access to IT hubs.
- Commissioning of a subway at Howrah Metro Station and foundation laying for the six-lane elevated Kona Expressway (7.2 km, ₹1,200 crore) to enhance connectivity between Howrah and Kolkata.
Addressing gatherings in both states, the Prime Minister is expected to highlight how these projects will strengthen connectivity, reduce travel time, boost trade and tourism, and improve healthcare, housing, and urban infrastructure across the region.
