Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Bhagalpur today to release the 19th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN), reaffirming his government’s commitment to the welfare and prosperity of farmers. Alongside the fund release, PM Modi will address a massive public rally at the Airport Ground in the lead-up to the 2025 Bihar elections.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will accompany the Prime Minister at the event, which is expected to draw around 5 lakh farmers from across the state. Senior leaders from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) are also set to participate, with attendees coming from 13 districts including Bhagalpur, Munger, and Begusarai.

The event’s highlights include the distribution of the PM-KISAN funds and the public address by PM Modi. BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain expressed optimism about the NDA’s prospects in the upcoming Bihar elections, citing the strong alliance between the BJP, Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)), Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Hindustan Awam Morcha, and the Rashtriya Lok Morcha. Hussain predicted a landslide victory for the NDA, drawing parallels to the party’s success in the Delhi elections.

Meanwhile, opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) criticized the Prime Minister’s visit, accusing it of being politically motivated ahead of the state elections. Yadav questioned the central government’s commitment to Bihar’s development, pointing to the long-pending demand for granting Patna University Central University status, which remains unmet after 11 years of BJP rule.

RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav also downplayed the impact of the NDA’s recent victories, asserting that the people of Bihar have become aware of the BJP’s strategies and remain unconvinced by their promises. He expressed confidence that the NDA would struggle to form a government in the state.

The Bihar Legislative Assembly elections for all 243 constituencies are scheduled for October or November this year, following the last assembly polls held in 2020.
