India is set to mark its 79th Independence Day with grand celebrations at the Red Fort, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist the national flag and deliver his 12th consecutive address to the nation, under the theme ‘Naya Bharat’ – a vision aligned with achieving Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Upon arrival, PM Modi will be received by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, MoS Defence Sanjay Seth, and Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. Lieutenant General Bhavnish Kumar, GOC Delhi Area, will be introduced to the Prime Minister before the ceremonial proceedings begin.

This year’s festivities will also honour the success of Operation Sindoor—India’s decisive military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. The celebration will feature floral decorations bearing the operation’s logo, and two Mi-17 IAF helicopters will shower petals—one carrying the national flag and the other the Operation Sindoor flag—during the flag hoisting.

Flying Officer Rashika Sharma will assist PM Modi in unfurling the tricolour, after which NCC cadets and My Bharat volunteers will sing the national anthem. Around 2,500 cadets from the Army, Navy, and Air Force will form the ‘Naya Bharat’ logo on Gyanpath.

The event will host 5,000 special guests, including international sports medalists, Special Olympics 2025 participants, top-performing farmers, youth achievers under various government schemes, entrepreneurs from SC/ST communities, and beneficiaries of flagship rural and skill development programmes.

Across India, over 140 locations will witness simultaneous band performances by contingents from the Armed Forces, Central Armed Police Forces, and paramilitary units to boost patriotic fervour and celebrate the victory of Operation Sindoor.

The celebrations are further amplified by the fourth edition of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. More than five lakh youth volunteers have registered to inspire citizens to display the tricolour at homes, workplaces, and public spaces. The Ministry of Culture, in coordination with states, UTs, and community organisations, has ensured nationwide participation.

The phased campaign has built momentum in the lead-up to August 15, culminating in a unified display of the national flag across the country, symbolising collective pride and commitment to building a Naya Bharat.
