On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the commencement of Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj, describing it as a “very special day” for the millions of people who cherish Bharatiya values and culture.

In a post on X, PM Modi shared his thoughts, saying, “A very special day for crores of people who cherish Bharatiya values and culture. Maha Kumbh 2025 begins in Prayagraj, bringing together countless individuals in a sacred confluence of faith, devotion, and culture. The Maha Kumbh represents India’s timeless spiritual heritage, celebrating both faith and harmony.”

PM Modi expressed his delight at the overwhelming influx of pilgrims and tourists in Prayagraj. He also wished them a fulfilling and memorable experience. “I am happy to see Prayagraj filled with countless people, taking the holy dip and seeking blessings. Wishing all pilgrims and tourists a wonderful stay,” he wrote.

PM Modi also conveyed his hopes for the transformative impact of the Maha Kumbh on all who participate, emphasizing that it would infuse new energy and enthusiasm into their lives. “With the bath on Paush Purnima, the Maha Kumbh has begun on the holy land of Prayagraj. On this divine occasion tied to our faith and culture, I salute and greet all the devotees from the bottom of my heart. I wish that this grand festival of Indian spiritual tradition brings fresh energy and enthusiasm to the lives of all,” he added.

Maha Kumbh 2025, the largest human gathering in the world, saw devotees queuing for the ‘Snan’ or holy dip on the sacred occasion of Paush Purnima. Devotees from around the world gathered in Prayagraj to take part in this revered ritual at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mystical Saraswati rivers at Triveni Sangam. The first major Shahi Snan will take place on Tuesday, marking the occasion of Makar Sankranti.

This year’s Maha Kumbh is even more special due to the rare celestial alignment, which occurs only once in 144 years.

For safety and security, NDRF teams and Uttar Pradesh Police’s water police have been deployed across key locations. Traffic Police have also put in place elaborate plans to ensure smooth vehicular movement for those attending the event.

Notably, the entry to the Sangam Mela area will be via Jawaharlal Nehru Marg (Black Road), with the exit route through Triveni Marg. During major bathing festivals, Akshayavat Darshan will remain closed to visitors. Parking arrangements have been made for vehicles coming from Jaunpur, with designated parking areas such as Chini Mill Parking and Purva Surdas Parking.

This year’s Maha Kumbh, celebrated after 12 years, is expected to draw more than 45 crore devotees. The festival will conclude on February 26.
