Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the injured victims of the tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad on Friday, including the lone survivor, and assured them of the nation’s full support during this difficult time.

Taking to social media platform X, PM Modi shared: “Met those injured in the aftermath of the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad, including the lone survivor, and assured them that we are with them and their families in this tough time. The entire nation is praying for their speedy recovery.”

During his visit to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, PM Modi met Vishwashkumar Ramesh, a British national of Indian origin and the only person to survive the deadly crash of Air India flight AI-171. The aircraft was bound for London but crashed shortly after takeoff on Thursday, killing 241 of the 242 people on board.

Vishwashkumar, who was seated in row 11 near an emergency exit, is currently under treatment. The flight’s passenger manifest included 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian national, according to airline authorities.

The Prime Minister also visited other injured individuals at the hospital and later conducted an on-site inspection of the crash location at Meghaninagar, where the aircraft struck a medical college complex after takeoff from Ahmedabad International Airport.

Following his inspection, PM Modi chaired a high-level review meeting with top officials at the airport to assess the situation and ongoing response efforts.

“Chaired a review meeting at Ahmedabad Airport with top authorities,” he posted along with a photo from the meeting.

He was accompanied by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, Union MoS Murlidhar Mohol, and State Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi during the visit.

Air India confirmed that the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, operating as flight AI-171, suffered a catastrophic failure shortly after departure, resulting in one of the deadliest aviation disasters in recent Indian history. A formal investigation is currently underway.
