Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for a nationwide movement to tackle obesity and promote healthier eating habits, urging citizens to reduce their cooking oil consumption by 10% to help fight the growing health crisis. In his 119th Mann Ki Baat radio program on February 23, PM Modi highlighted alarming statistics showing a rise in obesity rates, especially among children. He emphasized that even small dietary changes, such as cutting down on oil, could significantly improve public health.

To broaden the reach of this campaign, PM Modi enlisted several prominent figures from various fields, including actors Mohanlal and R. Madhavan, singer Shreya Ghoshal, athletes Neeraj Chopra and Nikhat Zareen, and business magnate Anand Mahindra. He nominated them to raise awareness about obesity and encourage others to join the movement.

Supporting the Prime Minister’s initiative, Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra and boxer Nikhat Zareen shared their personal stories about overcoming obesity and maintaining healthy diets to improve their performance. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also expressed his commitment to reducing oil consumption and promoting public health.

The campaign is part of PM Modi’s larger efforts to address pressing health concerns in India, with additional initiatives aimed at making the country TB-free by 2025.
