Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) campaign for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections on Wednesday, expressing confidence that the party would emerge victorious. He declared, “On February 5, AAP-da jayegi, BJP aayegi,” signaling the end of Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) rule in the capital and a shift to BJP governance.

Speaking to a public rally in Ghonda assembly constituency, PM Modi sharply criticized the AAP government, emphasizing that Delhi’s residents were seeking freedom from tanker mafias and better access to tap water. He remarked, “Delhi is saying no more excuses, false promises, loot, and lies from AAP. People want a government that focuses on development, welfare, and empowerment of the poor. They want a double-engine government that will build homes for the poor and make Delhi a modern state. The people of Delhi are clear: AAP-da jayegi, BJP aayegi.”

PM Modi praised the Delhi BJP’s manifesto, which outlines a range of welfare schemes targeting women, youth, the middle class, auto drivers, shopkeepers, and slum dwellers. He assured voters that once BJP forms the government on February 8, they would fulfill all promises within a set timeframe, calling it “Modi Ki Guarantee.”

Reflecting on Delhi’s current state, the Prime Minister highlighted the disparity between the nation’s progress and the condition of its capital. He stated, “While crores of citizens across the country work towards building a developed India, Delhi does not reflect the image of a modern capital. Does Delhi look like a capital city? The answer is clear to everyone. The people of Delhi are voicing their concerns, and it is time for change.”

Addressing voters, PM Modi asked for their trust, appealing for a chance to work for their welfare and development. “Ek baar Kamal ko bhi dekh lijiye,” he urged, referring to the BJP’s symbol.

The Prime Minister also took aim at both AAP and Congress, accusing them of failing to address the city’s long-standing problems during their respective tenures. He remarked, “In the 21st century, Delhi’s issues persist despite being governed for 14 years by Congress and 11 years by AAP. The same traffic congestion, poor infrastructure, sewage problems, pollution, and dirty water continue to plague the city. Your vote can change this.”

He assured Delhi residents that a BJP government would focus on completing the necessary work for the next 25 to 30 years. PM Modi said, “I have worked for the country, but not yet for Delhi. Give me the chance, and I will work for you with the same care and dedication as a family head cares for their own.”

The BJP is hoping to reclaim power in Delhi after nearly 27 years. In contrast, the Congress, which ruled for 15 consecutive years in the capital, has seen a decline in support in recent elections. AAP, on the other hand, has dominated the last two elections, securing 67 and 62 seats in the 2015 and 2020 assembly elections, respectively, leaving the BJP with only three and eight seats.

The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for February 5, with results to be declared on February 8. A total of 699 candidates are contesting for 70 assembly seats in the city.
