Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of development projects worth over ₹9,000 crore in Aizawl, reaffirming Mizoram’s central role in India’s Act East Policy and the emerging North East Economic Corridor.

The projects cover railways, roads, energy, and sports, marking a major step in Mizoram’s growth trajectory. Praising the contributions of Mizo icons Lalnu Ropuiliani and Pasaltha Khuangchera, the Prime Minister said the values of courage, compassion, and service remain deeply rooted in Mizo society.

He highlighted that rail connectivity would be transformative, boosting farmers’ access to markets, improving education and healthcare links, and creating jobs in tourism, transport, and hospitality. He also announced that Mizoram will soon benefit from the UDAN regional air connectivity scheme, with helicopter services to improve access to remote areas.

Calling the North East the “growth engine of India”, Modi stressed that initiatives like the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project and the Sairang-Hmawngbuchhuah rail line would connect Mizoram to the Bay of Bengal through Southeast Asia, enhancing trade and tourism opportunities.

The Prime Minister also lauded Mizoram’s sporting talent, noting its achievements in football and other disciplines. Under Khelo India, modern sports infrastructure is being developed, alongside the newly launched National Sports Policy – Khelo India Khel Niti, to create more opportunities for youth.

Pointing to the national outlook, Modi said India’s economy grew 7.8% in Q1 2025-26, making it the fastest-growing major economy in the world, with strong momentum in Make in India and exports.
